The Bloomfield Township Firefighters Charities (BTFD) dedicates itself to a variety of causes throughout the year, including funding research for burn treatment, combating juvenile arson, helping local residents in need, and supporting community assistance initiatives. Furthermore, it stands as the second-largest contributor to the Muscular Dystrophy Association among fire departments in Michigan. Since its establishment in the mid-1980s, BTFD has successfully raised around $750,000 for these important causes. This ongoing effort highlights the Department's unwavering commitment to philanthropy, showcasing the firefighters' year-round dedication to providing aid to those in need. Bloomfield Township takes great pride in the firefighters' commitment to making a difference in the community.
Firefighters Donate Holiday Meals To Local Families
Every year the Bloomfield Township Fire Department celebrates the holidays with a big party for their families. That has always been fun, but the party held this past holiday season was far more gratifying. The Department’s families collected food for those in need and when it was all packaged up, they had enough to provide holiday meals for 71 local families!
Special thanks go to:
Firefighter Leonard Wineski for coordinating and promoting the project;
All BTFD firefighters and their families for their generous donations;
Firefighters on Unit 3 (West Maple Station) who decided to forego buying Christmas presents among themselves, as they have done in the past, and put the money toward purchasing food for the needy. Their donations provided for 25 families!
Hollywood Market for providing food at a discount to Unit 3;
Kohl’s Corporation donating $500.00 to purchase the turkeys and hams for each family’s meal. Kohl’s also sent six volunteers to assist in separating the food into bags;
And finally, a thank you to Township Trustee Neal Barnett and Senior Services Director Christine Tvaroha for assistance in identifying township residents who were in need of a holiday meal.
This is one more example of the Department’s continued commitment to charitable causes. Bloomfield Township is proud of the dedication the firefighters show year-round to help those who need assistance.
